Defeating Discouragement

Discouragement comes in many forms, and we will see how Nehemiah faced this when he started doing the work God called him to do. We will see how the enemy will attack us and then see how we can overcome the discouragement and keep working.

Nehemiah was an ordinary guy who had a deep burden. Throughout this series, we will see how the burden led to action, how he planned the action, how he faced opposition and discouragement, and how he continued to do work that mattered.

The Blueprint

When we receive the burden and actually let it in, then what? How can we begin to walk in the calling we have?

What Breaks Your Heart?

All of us have something to burdens our heart. What do we do when the burden arises? Do we try to let it pass and just move on with our lives, or do we really let it in and break our heart?

On The Rock

We all build our lives on something – either the things of this world or on the gospel of Jesus. What is the one thing that drives everything for you?

Do You Know Him?

Jesus begins to wrap up his sermon, and he wants to summarize everything He has been saying. He wants His listeners to know that it isn’t about what they know but rather about who they know and how that relationships impacts their lives. While we may not have been in attendance, the words of Jesus still hold true for us today. Do you know Him?

Don’t Stop Praying

The way we pray is directly proportionate to the way we see God. Do we see Him as judge? Do we see Him as only a king? Do we see Him as the man upstairs? Do we see Him as Father? The way we answer this questions determines how strong and how powerful our prayer life is. The reality is, we experience many prayers that don’t get answered the way we think they should. How do we handle those times and what does it say about God?

Where Is Your Treasure?

Jesus talks about money two different times in the Sermon on the Mount, yet His main focus is less about finances and more about heart. What we value and treasure the most ends up grabbing hold of us and our heart follows. Where is your treasure? Do you value the things of this world or do you value reaching people for the Kingdom?

Fasting 101

Spiritual disciplines are discussed all the time in the church, yet one of the most powerful disciplines gets left out. Maybe it’s because it’s not fun. Maybe it’s because people think it’s silly. Maybe it’s because people just don’t understand it is actually a spiritual discipline. But along with generosity and prayer, Jesus includes fasting in the Sermon on the Mount. Join us as we discuss the purpose, process, power and promise of fasting.

Pray Like This

Most of us, even those of us not raised in church, have heard the “Lord’s Prayer” at some point in our lives. What is this prayer all about, and why did Jesus give it to us? Should we memorize it? Should we recite it often? What does it even mean? Join us for Week 7 as we dive in and discuss all these questions.

The greatest sermon ever recorded was the sermon Jesus gave on a mountainside. The Sermon on the Mount starts and ends with the Gospel. Everything in-between is what it looks like to live a Gospel-infected life. Jesus gives us practical life lessons, not to prove we are Christ followers but because we are Christ followers.

What is Your Motive?

Generosity is important. In fact, Jesus talked about money about 40% of the time – more than grace, more than Heaven, more than the gospel. Jesus had to know money was going to be one of those idols that could grab us – and grab us hard.
